My friends Big E and Chrissy Salazar are opening their dream!

After many years of booking shows and working in clubs and bars in Houston this couple decided to take it to the next level.

Big E (Edgar) has been booking live music in Houston for the last 15 years; his love for music, culture, and lifestyle is the main reason he has decided to open Big Kat’s. This Kat has made the Contiental Club (Houston) his home. What a better place to open a shop then on the block right next to the club in which he has spent much of his life. “ These people are my family” Big E states "without their support for all these years, none of this would be possible."

Crissy Salazar (Big E’s wife) has been going to his shows for the last 10 years. She loves any and all things vintage claiming “It’s a lifestyle, not just clothes."

Big E has always had the dream of opening an old school barbershop combined with a tattoo parlor, but never thought it would come together. After discussing with wife Crissy and several close friends they thought adding Vintage inspired salon to E's concept would make the perfect addition to the Main Street block they all love.

The couple’s goal for the shop is to offer an old school feel with updated services. “We want this to be THE spot. A place you come to hang out even if you don’t need a cut or color”.

Why the name? Well, “cause I’m the Big Kat” says Big E ... and the Kat’s Meow? “Well every cat need’s his kitten”.

Alief ISD Bleeds A Family Dry...

Chuka Chibuogwo is 14-years-old, severely autistic and largely unaware that the Alief Independent School District has targeted his family with an ongoing federal law suit that could bankrupt his parents.

During a contentious dispute with the Chibuogwos over how best to educate Chuka, Alief ISD has run up hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees since 2007 and been working ever since to force the middle class, immigrant family to pick up it's tab.

"Basically what they are trying to do is run me and my family on to the street ," said Chuka's father Kenneth Chibuogwo.

Turns out, the special needs student at the center of the storm wasn't the only person oblivious to the on-going legal battle.

That's because until FOX 26 told them last October, each and every member of the Alief school Board claimed to have had no knowledge that local taxpayers were bankrolling a quarter million dollar courthouse campaign against the parents of a disabled child.

That could be a problem because both Texas law and Alief's own published board policy clearly state the elected board alone has the authority to sue on behalf of the district.

Last October, after first learning of the lawsuit, the board met behind closed doors to discuss the case with then Alief Superintendent Louis Stoerner and school attorney Erik Nichols .

During this executive session, trustees could have halted the litigation against the Chibogwus, but decided instead to continue the lawsuit . No vote was taken in public and the district is still paying the mounting legal bills.

"If they took action at that meeting that is a serious violation of the Texas Open Meetings Act. That is the very thing the Texas Open Meetings Act is designed to prevent is secret meetings, secret actions, the people's business being carried out in a back room basically," said Larsen.

In an open records request, FOX 26 News asked for official proof of a public vote delegating power to the superintendent to sue.

On January 20th Alief ISD admitted it had no proof. FOX 26 asked board member Hansen to explain his claim.

"I can't as a board member speak on these matters. I can't do it!," exclaimed Hansen at Tuesday's AISD board meeting.

Board watch dog Hermann has filed a detailed criminal complaint against the AISD board, school attorney Nichols and his law firm Rogers, Morris & Grover.

The Harris County District Attorneys office will not confirm the case is under investigation, but is not denying it either.

A kid denied education, a school district suing parents, accusations of criminal back room dealing by the elected board.

Clearly, Alief has a problem.

Chris Baker's Back In Houston?

For the time being anyway.

Chris Baker is on from 4 - 6pm on KSEV 700AM Houston. It's not his own show, but he's there for now.

He states that he, "chose to put myself in a position to be ready for the media of the future, while at the same time providing security for my family. My next opportunity does just that and I am very excited."

Baker is a man of his word, a rarity sometimes in the broadcasting biz, because he told me he would tell me first about his new show. Thank you Chris.

Baker started out in Houston around a decade ago on 950 KPRC. He then went on to also work at 740 KTRH. After leaving the Houston market in 2007, Baker returned to 950 KPRC in 2009. At the time, he was broadcasting from Minneapolis where he had a morning show on KTLK-FM. Baker left KPRC last November and KTLK in early February.

Irina Werning - Photographer

Have you seen the photos people take of themselves based on baby photos and try to replicate them as adults?  They're sometimes called "Then and Now" photos.  I love that idea!

Photographer Irina Werning has mastered it!  Here's her website on the subject - Back To The Future.  And below are some examples of her work on this project.

There are a TON more on her site. I suggest looking at all her projects. I'm in love and awe.

Moody Review : Sally Hansen Salon Effects

This is the easiest and fastest nail art I've done thus far.

Take a tab, peel off the front, pull the top tab off, peel off the backing....

...and stick it to your fingernail....

Use the file included and file away any excess.

Ta Da!

Easy Peasy.  This was done on my 14 year old.  They lasted about a week - but I'm sure will last much longer....she's a picker and can't resist picking, peeling chipping anything.
